Sprint To Launch Dual-Screened ‘Echo’ Phone Later Today

The phone market really pukes out a lot of carbon copies. One company will do something awesome and then every other company will copy it for the next year or two. And so it goes–an ever repeating cycle that makes most phone announcements rather dull.
But, while the majority of phone announcements are dull, there is that rare first-of-its-kind. And that’s what the rumors point to for the Sprint-based Kyocera Echo.
The Android phone, which is expected to be launched at Sprint’s NYC event tonight, will feature two LCD touchscreens in a hinged layout. Each screen will be 3.5 inches and the dual-screen layout is expected to enable multi-tasking (i.e. texting and browsing the Web at the same time) and possibly dual-screened games and applications.
Unfortunately, rumor is that it will only be 3G-capable and will miss out on Sprint’s WiMax network. We’ll know more in just a wee bit.
