Sony working on Playstation Tablet, S1

The only major consumer electronics company with no announced tablet so far has been Sony. But this is about to change soon. A drawing of Sony’s tablet appeared on Engadget. The tablet, dubbed Sony S1, is claimed to be a Playstation branded tablet which would allow Playstation integration and comes with some PS1 titles preloaded.
The S1 would be a 9.4″ tablet running Android Honeycomb having a new “wrap” design. The design as seen in the drawings shifts the weight of the tablet towards the curved edge making it easier to hold while using with one hand. The UI would rotate allowing both left-handed and right-handed use, along with the landscape mode when the curved edge would be held at top. The tablet would be powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor. It would have dual cameras and a screen resolution of 1280 x 800. The connectivity options include the usual WiFi and Bluetooth along with IR and USB.
The Sony S1 would be running a custom UI built over Honeycomb. The UI is rumored to be developed by a team of top designers from VAIO, Reader, PlayStation and Sony Ericsson. Although the tablet would be Playstation branded its primary focus would be Qriocity, Sony’s recently launched music, games, ebooks, and videos on demand service.
Like all other Sony products, this one too would be priced on a higher side. The WiFi only version is rumored to carry a price tag of $599 and expected to start shipping in Sep’11. Given the accuracy Engadget has had with Sony Playstation phone, this is surely very believable for us!
